Starry Night!

A few days ago, the high school juniors hosted a banquet for the graduates of 2019. This is an annual event for the school and much time and energy goes to make it a memorable occasion. This year was no exception. The banquet's theme was 'Starry Night'. Many of the students, especially the girls, were dressed in fancy costumes with 'stars' and glitter. I decided to wear a gold shirt with lots of glitter. One student asked me, 'Sir, why do you wear a gold shirt? Why not a blue one?' My response, 'Have you never heard of yellow stars? Stars have many colours.' This little exchange made me realise that most of us have fixed images of things and we are discomforted when things do not fit that little box. Maybe, this is why we need God because he can give us a big box to live in. Experience tells me that the bigger the box, the greater the comfort of life despite its ugliness. To borrow words from a television show, 'Life is a beautiful mess'. Indeed! God creates the beauty amidst the mess.
