Today is the first day of Thailand's most important festival, Songkran. This festival also serves as the virtual New Year of the Thai calendar. The most intriguing aspect of the festival is 'playing water' (people drenching each other with water all over the country). What catches attention is the fact this is the driest and hottest part of the year in the country. Perhaps this is why the festival occurs at this time of year. Water splashing helps people to cool down while also enjoying the start of another year. In a conversation with a Samaritan woman, Jesus inferred that he is the 'water of life' (John 4). In a world parched with the heat of sin, this water can indeed provide necessary cooling. All those who live in Thailand have come to enjoy Songkran. All those who live in the world could benefit from the living water Jesus provides.
